Verizon phone - changing a new phone to an existing number.?

My stepfather got a new phone, and he gave it to me. The phone was shipped to my house under his phone number, and when I try to activate the phone under my number, it says that it's the wrong number. How can I change this? Thanks :)Verizon phone - changing a new phone to an existing number.?
1) Call the number that is on the yellow paper you got and activate the new phone on your step dads number (this is a required step). Have all 3 phones in front of you....your current phone, your step dad's old phone and the new phone. If you and your step dad are on the same account please proceed.

2) If your dad is the account owner for the Verizon account then have him log into his My Verizon account. On the first page there a list of links all the way to the right of the screen, click on Activate My Phone.

3) On the next page go the box with the heading Existing or Replacement Equipment and click on the link Activate Equipment.

4) On the next page choose your step dad's number from the drop down box then choose a reason for the change in the drop down box, honestly it really doesn't matter what you choose. Then take the battery off your of your step dad's original phone and look for the 11 digit ESN/MEID number and type it into the box with the heading New ESN/MEID*. Then click submit.

5) Follow the links for any features you would like to add to the account and click Continue. Follow the instructions to dial *228 send and then choose option 1 when prompted. This will activate your step dad's original phone back on his number.

Repeat the steps 4 %26amp; 5 again but choose the your number and get the ESN/MEID from under the battery on the new phone to activate on your number.Verizon phone - changing a new phone to an existing number.?
Activate the phone under his number then call customer service and activate the number under your phone and reactivate your step dad phone on his phone will need all 3 phones to do so. Because you need the serial number you can call costumer service and have them walk you threw the steps. On a lane line (home telephone) Also you can do it online where they can also help you, but you have to act like your step dad and you have to have the password into your account which is usually your dads last 4 digits of his social security number and your address you don't need your account number just say that you don't have it at the moment.
