Contact Verizon Customer service. From a landline phone, dial 1-800-922-0204 to speak with a Verizon Wireless customer service representative. You will be prompted to enter your current cell phone number to be directed to a representative. This action must be taken because customer service representatives are assigned according to your cell phone number's area code.



Provide your detailed Verizon Wireless account information. When the assigned representative answers your call, you will be prompted to provide your current cell phone number once again, along with your name, date of birth, billing address and the last four digits of your Social Security number. Once you have provided this information, request to have your current cell phone number changed to a new one.



Give the representative the cell phone's information when prompted. You will have to remove the battery from the cell phone. You will be asked to give the cell phone's MSID, HEX, DEC, or ESN number, which is considered the cell phone's unique identifier. (The type of number that is displayed on the back of your cell phone depends solely on the cell phone's manufacturer.) Follow the prompts given by the representative to complete the number changing process. The operator will then give you the new cell phone number.



Reassemble the phone. Place the battery back into the cell phone and reapply the phone's hard cover. Power the cell phone back on. Once the time and date are displayed, the cell phone has been powered back on successfully.



Test the cell phone. Once the phone has powered on, dial *228 on the cell phone's keypad. When the automated service answers the call, a confirmation of the activation will be confirmed by Verizon Wireless. End the call to conclude the cell phone number changing process.
